The Evangelical Covenant Church has its roots in historical Christianity as it emerged in the Protestant Reformation, in the biblical instruction of the Lutheran State Church of Sweden, and in the great spiritual awakenings of the nineteenth century. These three influences have in large measure shaped its development and are to be borne in mind in seeking to understand its distinctive spirit.

The Whole Family of God:
We believe we can see God more clearly when we are in community with God’s people of many ages, cultures, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds. (Gal. 3:26-28)

Deeply Rooted:
The Bible, the Living Word of God, is the center of our life and teaching. We desire not only to hear and believe the Word of God, but also to be doers of the Word. (2 Timothy 3:14-17)

Living Changed Lives:
We believe that Jesus offers forgiveness, healing, and eternal life to those who put their trust in him. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to live a new life that is free from the control of sin and that is marked by the love of Jesus. (Col. 3:9,10)

Partners in God’s Work:
We believe that Jesus is alive and actively working in the world to call people into a restored relationship with God. We have the privilage of being used in this work. (2 Cor. 5:19-20)

Living Worship:
We believe that true worship is a life lived in obedience to God. Our expressions of worship in song, art, prayer, and liturgy flow out of the ways we honor God with our lives. (Isaiah 58:6-12)

Seeking Justice:
Faithfully sharing the love of God requires us to sacrifice our own rights, power, and security for the sake of those experiencing injustice in our world, our community, and in the church. (John 15:11-13)
